Distant Realities is an experimental design studio and architectural practice founded by Marine Lemarié (FR/AT) and Nicolas Stephan (DE). Rooted in a deep engagement with ecology, politics, economy, and technology, Distant Realities approaches design and architecture as a critical medium to unveil hidden systems and explore alternative futures in an increasingly entangled world.
Their practice is firmly research-based, emphasizing conceptual storytelling alongside the application of cutting-edge digital techniques. Rather than treating their work as fixed proposals, they craft immersive scenarios that incorporate both utopian and dystopian elements, offering a lens through which to reimagine contemporary conditions. Through exhibitions, residencies, publications, and educational initiatives across Europe, the United States, and beyond, Distant Realities continues to question, disrupt, and expand the possibilities of architectural practice. Their work invites audiences to traverse the boundaries between the seen and the unseen, the present and the speculative.
