From Prompt to Design — Generative AI Explained for Architects

Architects are becoming increasingly familiar and comfortable with generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Midjourney, and Stable Diffusion. While these tools are widely adopted across architectural practice, their underlying principles often remain unclear.
In this lecture, Dr. Adam Sebestyen provides an intuitive introduction to how generative AI systems function behind the scenes. He explains key concepts in an accessible way and illustrates examples. The lecture also presents research and teaching projects developed in collaboration with his students and colleagues at Graz University of Technology, focusing on generative 3D AI applications for architectural design.

Dr. Adam Sebestyen studied Architecture at Vienna University of Technology and the University of Applied Arts Vienna. He earned his doctoral degree in Architectural Computing at Graz University of Technology. He is currently completing a Master’s degree in AI Engineering.
Over the past ten years, he has worked across architecture and media design. Currently he is a University Assistant at Graz University of Technology at the Institute of Architecture and Media, where his work focuses on computational design principles and generative AI for architectural applications. His works have been exhibited in Vienna, Milan, Venice, and Graz.
